Random Acts of Kindness Happening Around Town By Local Students

School may be out, but St. Catharine of Siena School children are still making good on pledges to commit random acts of kindness as a way of thanking all who supported their Spring Pay It Forward Fundraiser.

Treats for local emergency personnel, donations to pet shelters, volunteering at local food banks, and more acts of service are planned throughout the summer by the 248 students of St. Catharine of Siena in Mount Penn.

Earlier this Spring, all of the school children decorated envelopes numbered 1-248 (representing all the children in our school). Each envelope (which was itself a work of art) was stuffed with lottery tickets, raffle tickets, coupons from local sponsors, a ticket to at catered “THANK YOU” reception at Manatawny Creek Winery in Douglassville and a PAY IT FORWARD pledge from one of the school children. Members of the community then "purchased" the envelopes for the number on the envelope - from $1 to $248. In this way, donors were able to participate in our PAY IT FORWARD circle for a range of amounts, making it an inclusive event for the entire school community.

All the proceeds (nearly $20,000!) from the purchase of the envelopes and the raffle, went directly to the school, to help provide scholarships to low income families, and to help pay for the cost of a new roof. In return, the school children have been making good on all their PAY IT FORWARD pledges.
